FREE Trauma Recovery Model training for youth workers/youth support workers (Dec 6-8)

Following the success and impact of the recent Trauma Recovery Model (TRM) training events funded by  Welsh Government and co-ordinated by the WLGA, it has been agreed to deliver a further course for Youth Workers and youth support services across Wales.

The event  will take place over 3-Days on 6th-8th December 2021, online via Microsoft Teams, and is available for delegates from both the voluntary sector and local authorities.

On completion of the course there will be an opportunity for delegates to also carry out an end-of-course assignment with a view to becoming an accredited TRM Practitioner, one of the requirements for entry to  TRM Train the Trainer programme.

Ending Physical Punishment – change in the law

A message from colleagues at the Welsh Government about legislative changes;

From 21 March 2022, physically punishing children will be illegal in Wales.

The ‘big launch’ of the Ending Physical Punishment campaign took place on Tuesday 21 September, marking ‘six months to go’ before the law comes into force.

Youth Work National Conference 2021 on Thursday 14 of October is now open for booking.

The Youth Work National Conference 2021 is a full-day virtual event. It is an opportunity to hear from our keynote speakers and to find out about developments from across the sector. It is also a chance to network, discuss good practice and share ideas from the youth work sector and beyond.

CWVYS is seeking to recruit and host a Digital Communications Assistant, working alongside and in support of the sector-wide Marketing & Communications Officer with responsibility for a range of duties and projects. This post is funded by the Welsh Government.

We are looking for a fully bilingual (Welsh and English languages), creative and skilled person who will support the marketing and communications needs of the whole youth work services sector in Wales.

Additional Youth Support Grant Funding targeting Mental Health and Emotional Well being

The Welsh Government Youth Engagement Branch has secured an additional £2.5 million pounds of Youth Support Grant funding to be targeted to Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing of Young People.

As you may be aware from previous CWVYS messages to you, these funds are being allocated directly to local authorities, whose individual workplans need to be submitted to the Welsh Government by 21st September.

Positively, the criteria states that the workplans must be signed by both the local authority and voluntary sector organisations that have been engaged in their design.

We would therefore again encourage you to make contact with local authority Principal Youth Officers (contact list can be found here; PYOG Contacts List Sept 2021).

DEADLINE EXTENDED – Mapping and Evaluating the Youth Work Sector

The Faculty of Life Sciences and Education at the University of South Wales is offering the opportunity for a candidate to complete a study of “Mapping and Evaluating the Voluntary Youth Work Sector for Wales”

Annual Stipend: £11.8k p.a

This is a funded MbyRes, including a generous stipend and tuition fees, with well-resourced circumstances for a successful scholarship.

Here is an exciting opportunity to conduct a research study which could lead to entirely new approaches in the voluntary youth work sector.

The selected candidate will apply their knowledge on the sector, research skills and ambition to assist in mapping and evaluating the voluntary youth work sector. This opportunity will allow the student to develop transferable knowledge and skills in this most exciting and active field of criminology/social science.

Adult Learning Wales is Recruiting for Tutors

The Youth Community and Playwork Team at Adult Learning Wales is recruiting for Part Time Associate Tutors to teach on the Youth Support Worker Qualifications.  They deliver these qualifications to youth workers across Wales.  There is a good demand for their courses and there is a need to expand the pool of part time tutors.

To apply you will need to be Professionally Qualified Youth Worker to Level 6 and have a minimum Teaching Qualification at Level 3.

All course materials have been written and approved.  Tutors will need to plan delivery and assess learning.  If your application is successful, you will join the Youth Community and Playwork Team of Tutors and Adult Learning Wales Tutors.
