ScoutsCymru was proud to attend the Welsh Charity Awards 2025 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Thursday 16 October. The event, hosted by WCVA, brought together inspiring organisations from across our nation to celebrate the outstanding contribution of Wales’ voluntary sector.

Representing ScoutsCymru were Kirsty Palmer, Chair of the Board, Jamie Lee- Brown from Pembrokeshire, and Cerys Sage from CRAI. Together, they stood on behalf of the 4,600 volunteers and the dedicated staff team who make Scouting possible for nearly 14,500 young people across Wales each week.

ScoutsCymru was named Organisation of the Year, a recognition that celebrates the efforts of volunteers, staff and supporters who give so much so that young people can gain skills for life. Winning this award highlights the impact of Scouting in communities across Wales and the difference it makes for young people, giving them confidence, new experiences and opportunities they may not otherwise have had.

Kirsty Palmer, Chair of the Board at ScoutsCymru, said: “Last night was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything that Scouting brings to communities across Wales. What makes me proudest is the way our volunteers and staff work together, side by side, to make that possible and the difference they create in young people’s lives every single week. Recognition like this is encouraging, but the real reward is seeing young people grow in confidence every week, discover new experiences and gain opportunities they may not otherwise have had. That’s what Scouting is all about.”

CWVYS has been commissioned by the Welsh Government’s Youth Engagement Branch to administer another round of the Voluntary Youth Work Organisations Support Scheme (VYWOSS 2025-26)

Before you read any further, please note that this fund is only available to voluntary sector organisations, not-for-profit, and delivering youth work services in Wales in no more than one local authority area.

The aims of this competitive grant scheme are to:

• Support organisational sustainability through capacity-building and resilience-focused activities.
• Enhance the visibility and impact of youth work by helping organisations evidence their outcomes and attract further funding.
• Promote alignment with cross-Government priorities, including:

• The Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan
• The LGBTQ+ Action Plan
• Cymraeg 2050
• Strengthen open access youth work provision, particularly where such services have been deprioritised due to a shift towards targeted funding.

• Individual grants of £5,000 to £15,000 will be available to eligible organisations. Organisations will be able to apply for up to 3 strands of the grant, with a maximum amount available per strand of £5,000.

• Closing date for receipt of applications is 21 November 2025.

The Welsh Government published its draft budget for 2026-27 on 14 October 2025.

The Senedd’s Finance Committee will now scrutinise the proposals through a series of evidence sessions. Other Senedd Committees may also consider the draft budget before it is finalised.

In the run up to the 2026 Senedd Election, The Politics Project is offering free support to secondary schools, colleges and youth organisations across Wales to run their own youth hustings events through the Host a Hustings Cymru programme.

Designed to engage young people – especially first time voters aged 16-17 this programme helps bring politics to life and provides young people with the unique opportunity to ask candidates the questions they want to know the answers to. 

The programme includes:

• Expert-led training
• Learner resources on elections & Welsh democracy
• Materials to help you plan your hustings 
• Links to local candidates 

There are two ways to get involved:

1. Host a hustings with free training, resources, and tailored support
2. Attend a local hustings hosted by another school or organisation in your constituency

The theme for 2025 is “Rising as Me: Overcoming challenges, transforming, and finding your identity”

Volunteering Wales is a website that connects people that want to volunteer in Wales with charities and other organisations in the Welsh voluntary sector. It’s been designed specifically by and for Welsh organisations and is fully bilingual. It supports organisations from all kinds of sectors that are looking for volunteers, including public/statutory bodies like local authorities, health boards, police forces and more.

Volunteering Wales is free to use and an extremely accessible way to grow a volunteer base or connect people with the voluntary sector. Since its relaunch it has continued to be improved and refined to better help organisations attract new volunteers to their cause. Everyone’s time is precious, especially in the context of the cost of living crisis, so our aim is to make volunteering as simple and accessible as possible so volunteers and organisations can find each other with minimum fuss.

Throughout this pack we have provided materials aimed at informing both volunteers and organisations that work with volunteers about Volunteering Wales.

We know the sector is facing a volunteer recruitment crisis at the moment, so we want to use Volunteering Wales to do what we can to help and make sure as many organisations and potential volunteers are aware of its benefits as possible. Revised Code for registrants

Effective from the 1 September 2025, the revised Code of Professional Conduct and Practice is a key document and applies to everyone registered with the EWC. It sets out the standards, behaviours, and values expected of all registrants working across education in Wales and reflects the evolving expectations of practitioners. The updates we have made, which includes the addition of a new principle around leadership, ensures that the Code is now fully relevant to all of the 13 categories we are required to register. They also bring the document in-line with current best practice around terminology.

Latest of the makeup of the workforce

Our Annual Education Workforce Statistics for Wales 2025 is the most comprehensive source of intelligence on those who work in schools, further education, youth work, and adult/work-based learning in Wales. The data is sourced from the EWC’s Register of Education Practitioners.

Additions to our suite of resources

To continue to support our registrants in meeting the standards expected of them as registered professionals, we have created/updated a number of resources. These include a series of animations highlighting key areas such as the Code of Professional Conduct and Practice and the Professional Learning Passport, new good practice guides, on-demand training videos, and free to attend live webinars.

Youth Work Excellence Awards – closing date extended

The Youth Work Excellence Awards are an opportunity to recognise and celebrate outstanding youth work projects.  

New for this year is the opportunity to provide video testimony.

We have already received many excellent nominations from organisations right across Wales but many of you have asked for additional time to complete your nominations following a busy summer period.

Trustees’ Week takes place from 3 – 7 November in 2025 and we’re running a series of free events to mark the occasion.

WHAT IS TRUSTEES’ WEEK?

Trustees’ Week is an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight the opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference. 

This year’s theme is Celebrating, Inspiring and Supporting. We’re celebrating this week by hosting a series of free online events for trustees (and those who’d like to know more about becoming one) to participate in.
