The Cabinet Secretary for Education has issued a cabinet statement with further details on the above. Written Statement: A national body and statutory framework for youth work (27 June 2025) | GOV.WALES

On 19 June, CWVYS plus three of its north Wales-based Member organisations delivered an hour-long fringe session at the WLGA Conference in Llandudno.

The ‘Voluntary Youth Work Sector in Wales – Delivery, Partnerships and Collaboration’ session time/room with a view was kindly donated by Mark Davies and CCLA (Gold sponsors for the whole event).

Members TAPE Music and Film,  West Rhyl Young People’s Project, and Gisda enthralled the local authorities’ audience with brilliant presentations about the fantastic work they all do, day-in day-out, on behalf of, and with, young people.

Huge thanks to Steve, Hannah and Gruff for taking the time to deliver their talks. A good time was had by all and the session generated a great deal of interest in their individual and collective working, as well as calls from audience members to replicate programmes elsewhere in Wales.

Yn yr un modd â’r rhan fwyaf o sefydliadau, rydym ni’n arbrofi ac yn archwilio beth mae deallusrwydd artiffisial (AI) yn ei olygu i ni fel arolygiaeth, ac i’r sectorau addysg a hyfforddiant.

Rydym wedi gwneud rhywfaint o gynnydd dros y 9 mis diwethaf a dyma rai o’r uchafbwyntiau:

• Asesiad effaith data cadarn o’n defnydd o offer AI
• Cynhadledd i’r holl staff ar ddeallusrwydd artiffisial, ble cafodd staff brofiad ymarferol o ddefnyddio offer AI cynhyrchiol yn ddiogel ac yn effeithiol
• Gwneud cynnydd sylweddol ar 5 prosiect peilot
• Gosod archwaeth risg a thrin risg yn briodol trwy ein cofrestr risg strategol
• Arwain prosiect Ewrop gyfan ar y cyd, yn bwrw golwg ar effaith AI ar arolygiaethau
• Cael ein comisiynu gan Lywodraeth Cymru i gynnal adolygiad cyflym o’r defnydd o AI mewn ysgolion ac unedau cyfeirio disgyblion (UCDau)

Gan fod AI yn bwnc mor ddadleuol, sy’n esblygu drwy’r amser, rydym yn awyddus i gyhoeddi ein safbwynt ar ddeallusrwydd artiffisial.

Mae’r ddogfen atodedig yn datgan ein huchelgais, ein hegwyddorion arweiniol ac yn rhoi ein safiad ar ystyriaethau allweddol sy’n gysylltiedig ag AI a’i effaith ar ein gwaith.

Rydym am gyhoeddi hwn ar ein gwefan cyn diwedd y mis ac yn rhannu gyda chi o flaen llaw fel un o’n rhanddeiliaid allweddol. Mae croeso i chi gysylltu â ni os oes gennych unrhyw gwestiwn neu adborth drwy Cyfathrebu@estyn.llyw.cymru

Like most organisations we are experimenting and exploring what artificial intelligence means for us as an inspectorate, and for the education and training sectors.

We have made some progress over the past 9 months, with some key highlights being:

• A robust data impact assessment of our use of AI tools
• All staff conference on artificial intelligence where staff were given hands on experience of using generative AI tools safely and effectively
• Significant progress made on 5 pilot projects
• Risk appetite set and appropriate treatment of risk via our strategic risk register
• Joint-lead on a European-wide project looking into impact of AI on inspectorates
• Commissioned by the Welsh Government to undertake a rapid review of the use of AI within schools and PRUs

With AI being such a contentious, and ever evolving subject, we are keen to publish our view on artificial intelligence.

The attached document states our ambition, our guiding principles and gives our position on key considerations relating to AI and its impact on our work.

We will publish this on our website before the end of the month, and we are sharing this with you as one of our key stakeholders. You are more than welcome to ask us questions or provide feedback via Communications@estyn.gov.uk

Mae pawb boed yn sefydliad, yn gymuned neu yn unigolyn yn medru gweld buddion gwerthfawr o gyfnewid yn rhyngwladol ac mae’r profiadau euraidd a gynigir a’r cydweithio effeithiol rhwng partneriaid yn adlewyrchiad o waith ysbrydoledig Taith Cymru! Da iawn chi!

I ni’n dymuno blwyddyn lwyddiannus arall iddynt! Ymlaen!

Congratulations to one of CWVYS’ members @taithwales, who has successfully secured funding for another year. Taith has been such a success story for Wales over the past 3 exciting years! Everyone, whether an organization, a community, or an individual, can see valuable benefits from international exchange, and the enriching experiences offered and the effective cooperation between partners, which reflect the inspirational work of Taith Cymru!

Youth Work Week in Wales (23^rd-30^th June). It is an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the impact and diversity of youth work across Wales.
