The CWVYS ‘Trustees on Board Programme’ is a unique collaboration between Welsh businesses and the voluntary youth sector here in Wales, providing new skills for the boards of youth organisations in Wales.

This is an exciting opportunity for both businesses and voluntary youth organisations to make a positive impact for our nation’s young people in every part of Wales. We are currently recruiting, training and vetting volunteers from businesses; aiming to give them and CWVYS members, the opportunity to strengthen and embolden opportunities for young people right across Wales.

20 CWVYS members have already joined the scheme, and we’ll be looking to at least double participation by the end of this year.

How does it work?

For CWVYS Members:

  • We will encourage or assist you with a skills analysis of your board.
  • We will work with you secure an additional board member, who will bring the additional skills identified by you, to help you sustain and grow what you do.
  • We will assist where needed as well as share any opportunities or lessons that arise from the programme at each stage.
  • And finally, we will put measures in place (by Summer 2027) to sustain the CWVYS / Business partnerships that have been made, for the mutual benefit of both, into the future.

How do I join? What do I need to do? What’s the timetable? etc.

For Businesses in Wales:

  • We will provide an opportunity for aspiring future leaders among your staff to develop their unique qualities within one of our Member organisations as a member of their board.
  • We will prepare your staff member/s at a 1hr weekly session for a month, so that they are aware of the minimum requirements of a Trustee and/or Director.
  • Your staff member/s will gain valuable leadership skills, links, problem solving and strategic planning within real life scenarios.
  • Long term, your business will have an excellent CSR link with one of 174 youth organisations that make up CWVYS’s membership in every corner of Wales. From local to national, they all do vital work across our communities.

How will my staff members be suported? How much time will they volunteer?
