STATEMENT ON GENDER RECOGNITION ACT REFORM
This Statement is addressed to every young person in Wales.
CWVYS believes that young peoples’ voices need to be, and deserve to be, heard.
CWVYS supports your right to be yourself.
You deserve to be treated with respect.
CWVYS believes that the recent consultation process on Gender Recognition Act (GRA) Reforms amplifies the issues faced by trans young people.
The process to legally change gender requires applicants to have a medical diagnosis and to submit large amounts of evidence. This is difficult, demeaning and out of line with international practice.
These issues are exacerbated for those aged 18 and under, who are not represented in the current legislation and this needs to be clarified further as part of the GRA Reform, the review of which CWVYS welcomes.
CWVYS supports trans young people and will support ongoing work to ensure that their rights are upheld.
