SUMMARY:International Literacy Day (ILD)
DESCRIPTION:Since 1967\, the annual celebrations of International Literacy Day (ILD) have taken place on 8 September around the world to remind policy-makers\, practitioners\, and the public of the critical importance of literacy for creating more literate\, just\, peaceful\, and sustainable society.\nLiteracy is a fundamental human right for all. It opens the door to the enjoyment of other human rights\, greater freedoms\, and global citizenship. \nLiteracy is a foundation for people to acquire broader knowledge\, skills\, values\, attitudes\, and behaviours to foster a culture of lasting peace based on respect for equality and non-discrimination\, the rule of law\, solidarity\, justice\, diversity\, and tolerance and to build harmonious relations with oneself\, other people and the planet. \nIn 2022\, however\, at least one out of seven adults aged 15 and above (765 million) lacked basic literacy skills. Additionally\, millions of children are struggling to acquire minimum levels of proficiency in reading\, writing and numeracy\, while some 250 million children of 6-18 years old are out of school. \n#LiteracyDay

SUMMARY:Social Value Procurement’ funding webinar
DESCRIPTION:As those of you who attended our recent Funding Webinar series will know\, there was a real interest in finding out more about ‘Social Value Procurement’ funding. \nSocial value is traditionally applied as part of a community\, local\, or regional contract. For example\, a local authority commissioning a built environment regeneration project may require the companies bidding for the work to state what social benefits they would offer to the area\, should they win the contract. \nPaula Lunnon\, of fellow CWVYS Members KPC Youth\, will be presenting a webinar session about this very topic: what it is; what it can mean to youth groups; where to comes from and much more. \nThis will take place between 11am-12noon on 12th July. \nInterested? Let paul@cwvys.org.uk know by no later than 10th July and you will be sent further details!

SUMMARY:Strategic Engagement & Communications IPG webinar
DESCRIPTION:IPG Webinar: Strategic Engagement and Communications\nWEBINAR: Building Stronger links between Youth Work and other parts of the Education system \nThis webinar is presented by the Strategic Communication and Engagement Implementation Participation Group (SCEIPG)\, one of five groups established to support the work of the Youth Work Strategy Implementation Board. \nOne of the recommendations within the ‘Time to deliver for young people in Wales’ report focuses on the role of regional delivery partnerships to support local delivery. To support progress in this area\, a network of representatives from the youth work sector have expressed an interest in working more closely with Education Sector and their Children and Young People’s Groups to build a better understanding of the needs of young people\, how services currently address those needs and identifying opportunities to foster further links between services. \nWe want to better understand the good things that are happening across Wales and help inform how this recommendation\, and other aspects of our work\, such as the connected work with Regional Partnership Boards (RPB) are developed. \nIn this webinar\, we will highlight the importance of Youth work and education working hand in hand and include examples of good practice from professionals in the sector. We will also break into discussion groups to examine future opportunities between the youth services and education sector in Wales using journey mapping and case studies. \nPresenters include: \n\nDeb Austin – Chair of the SCEIPG\nSian Tomos – Vice Chair of the SCEIPG\nMillie Boswell – NYTH / NEST Implementation Lead Welsh Government\nKirsty Williams – Chair of Powys RPB and Vice Chair of Powys Teaching Health Board\nEmma Chivers – Youth Work Advisor for the National Academy for Educational Leadership (NAEL)\nMark Isherwood – Director for Leadership Development and Quality Assurance\, NAEL\n\nWe welcome those involved in youth work in Wales who are interested in learning more and contributing to this discussion. Sign up free today. \nWelsh to English and BSL interpretation will be available on the day. \nRegister here; https://lu.ma/q58l332s
