SUMMARY:EYHC Youth Justice Simulation
DESCRIPTION:November 21st at Bangor University’s Reichel Hall\, 10:00am-3pm \n \nThis experiential learning session will put every participant ‘in the shoes’ of a young person engaging with our systems that aims to address the needs of children and young people. Using integrative teaching and simulations developed in collaboration with young people with lived experience\, we will explore what it is like to be a young person moving through various services and systems\, including education\, foster care\, youth justice\, homelessness\, and more. \nAs a result of EYHC’s international partnerships and networks\, we were privileged to be the first European country to host the simulation\, back in May 2022\, with approximately 50 participants experiencing the transformative power of the simulation. We then honoured later on in 2022 to be the first country in the world to have taken part in accredited ‘Youth Experiential Learning Simulation’ training\, so that we are able to independently and sustainability perform the simulation training\, running the simulation again in 2022 for over 100 participants. Being trained as YExLS Leaders\, enables us to ensure that a far larger number of professionals are able to experience the simulation than previously would have been possible.\nWe are therefore very excited to invite you to the second Youth Justice Simulation of 2024\, on November 21st\, at Bangor University’s Reichel Hall. Please arrive from 10:00am for a 10:30am start. The training will run until 3pm\, with a break included\, and lunch is provided.\nDue to venue restrictions\, this is a limited number event\, so please only register if you’re planning on attending. Please register your attendance below: \nhttps://buytickets.at/endyouthhomelessnesscymru/1373758 \nTo enable as many departments/organisations to attend as possible we would really appreciate teams operating to a maximum 5 person per team limit. \n

SUMMARY:EYST Right to Education Learning Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Right to Education Learning Seminar (online)\nWednesday 20th November 10-12 \nBrought to you by EYST Wales\, we are delighted to invite you to our first learning seminar as part of the Right to Education (R2E) project. Right to Education is an all-Wales specialist support and advocacy service for ethnic minority young people and their families experiencing disputes with schools\, including school exclusions. \nWhat is a learning seminar?  \nThe learning seminar aims to equip those supporting and advocating for young people and families – in professional and community settings – with the knowledge and skills to mitigate and support those experiencing school exclusions. The interactive session will provide straightforward information to support you in your knowledge around school exclusions. \nThe learning seminar will particularly benefit those supporting and advocating for young people and families\, of all backgrounds\, either in a personal capacity (through parent and community networks) or professionally (youth workers\, family support workers etc.) \nWhat will I gain from attending? \nUsing real-life scenarios\, Amira Assami and Jami Abramson will support attendees with: \n\nUnderstanding the basics – what does a school exclusion look like\, what are the processes and guidance in place\, what to do when things don’t feel/look right.\nDemystifying jargon around school exclusions\, equipping you with the confidence to challenge schools and headteachers.\n‘Spot the signs’ of young people on the road to school exclusion\, offering preventative advice.\nRecognising the benefits of multi-agency working and referrals when supporting young people through school exclusions processes.\nThe opportunity to share knowledge with your colleagues and peers\, hopefully to widen knowledge about this sometimes less understood issue when supporting young people and families.\n\nJoin us to learn and share knowledge and insights around school exclusions to ensure all the young people we support have access to their rights. \nRegister here:  https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAlcuiprzMtHNYJuqNc5XgGh1hmRczntkBG \nAny questions in the meantime\, please contact Amira amira@eyst.org.uk or Jami jami@eyst.org.uk \nWe look forward to meeting you! \n  \n

SUMMARY:International Literacy Day (ILD)
DESCRIPTION:Since 1967\, the annual celebrations of International Literacy Day (ILD) have taken place on 8 September around the world to remind policy-makers\, practitioners\, and the public of the critical importance of literacy for creating more literate\, just\, peaceful\, and sustainable society.\nLiteracy is a fundamental human right for all. It opens the door to the enjoyment of other human rights\, greater freedoms\, and global citizenship. \nLiteracy is a foundation for people to acquire broader knowledge\, skills\, values\, attitudes\, and behaviours to foster a culture of lasting peace based on respect for equality and non-discrimination\, the rule of law\, solidarity\, justice\, diversity\, and tolerance and to build harmonious relations with oneself\, other people and the planet. \nIn 2022\, however\, at least one out of seven adults aged 15 and above (765 million) lacked basic literacy skills. Additionally\, millions of children are struggling to acquire minimum levels of proficiency in reading\, writing and numeracy\, while some 250 million children of 6-18 years old are out of school. \n#LiteracyDay
