Policies and strategies affecting Young People in Wales

CWVYS engages with other organisations and structures in Wales to support policy developments and influence strategic developments.

Youth Work
CWVYS represents the voluntary youth sector through its membership. The main policy areas are Extending Entitlement; supporting young people in Wales, 14-19 Learning Pathways, Youth Service Strategy, Community Focussed Schools and the developments of the Children Act 2004.

Voluntary Sector
CWVYS represents the Youth Network in the Voluntary Sector Scheme and works with other networks such as the Volunteering Forum, Children in Wales (the Children and Young people Network), and Training and Education.

Education for Sustainable Development & Global Citizenship (ESDGC)

Global Youth Work
CWVYS works closely with Cyfanfyd that works to promote education for global citizenship in Wales. CWVYS and Cyfanfyd undertook a joint project in 2004/5 entitled YOUNG PEOPLE IN WALES: ACTIVE GLOBAL CITIZENS
CWVYS supports the global youth work project run through Cyfanfyd
 
 
The Welsh Assembly Government published a consultation document on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC)  An Action plan was published in 2006.

ESDGC Common Understanding for the Youth Work Sector
The Welsh Assembly Government launched The Common Understanding for the Youth Work Sector during Youth Work Week in November 2008.  This was work that Cynfanfyd and CWVYS undertook through a tender from WAG.  An ESDGC toolkit is also under development to be published in 2009. Click Here
 
Volunteering
Russell Commission report: CWVYS is working with other stakeholders for youth volunteering to develop the recommendations in Wales

Russell Commission – Youth Action and Engagement in Wales
Work is being undertaken to develop a partnership structure that will take the Russell priorities forward and be free standing from WAG. Other work includes development of a tender for a portal and accreditation of volunteering. A paper on accreditation was prepared by CWVYS, Youth Cymru and WCVA. A young people’s panel has been established and the initiative renamed GwirVol.
 
Millennium Volunteers: Millennium Volunteers is an initiative to encourage and support volunteering among young people between the ages of 16-24. CWVYS is one of the partner organisations for Millennium Volunteers with WCVA who administers the scheme
 

WCVA
WCVA is the umbrella body for the voluntary sector in Wales.  It undertakes research in to the voluntary sector. Information can be accessed directly from WCVA. Helpline 0800 2888 329 or email: help@wcva.org.uk
