CWVYS is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Glaze as its new Chief Executive, with effect from 1 July 2009.
TRAINING THE TRAINER
CWVYS will be offering a ‘Training the Trainer’ course, in conjunction with the YMCA College, in January 2010. It is a City and Guilds qualification – Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CG7303) and the course introduces students to issues involved in teaching in post-compulsory education settings, such as community learning. Some prior training experience will be essential.
CWVYS also wishes to gauge interest from members in completing the FE Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work. This qualification provides a starting point for learners to progress further in youth work training as a profession.
Further information will be available soon, when CWVYS will be seeking expressions of interest from member organisations wishing to put forward nominations for both courses.

All Wales Guidance on Educational Visits
Stephanie Price from the Duke of Edinburgh Award writes:
Learning in the outdoors is a strong theme that runs through many activities. Visiting new areas and exploring new environments broadens young peoples' horizons and can deepen awareness of their own and others' abilities and needs.
The new guidance sets out a common framework for the management of educational visits across all Local Authorities in Wales. In Wales this guidance incorporates and supersedes previous guidance Health and Safety of Pupils on Educational Visits (HASPEV) and the subsequent supplements to HASPEV.
With input from all sectors, it reflects good practice in all types of educational visit - no matter who is doing the providing or who the learning.
