CWVYS is 70!
On the 15th of June we celebrated our 70th Birthday at the Senedd, with a wonderful group of guests and speakers, and a delicious lunch and cake!
The event was an opportunity to reflect on our history and also look forward.
With with the help of speakers like our seasoned Vice President Alan Higgins OBE, Lynne Neagle AM, chair of the Children, Young People and Education Committee and fellow AM and CWVYS Vice President Llŷr Huws Gruffydd, who both kindly co-sponsored the event, the state of Youth Work past and present was well discussed.
We are lucky to have Keith Towler as a Chair who devotes a lot of his time and a lot more of his energy, he brings to CWVYS a real passion and we truly are grateful he’s staying on another year with us!
Speaking of passion, we were introduced to the amazing talents of Sophie McKeand, Young People’s Laureate for Wales, who dazzled us with works from her creative heart, not only sympathetic to but filled to bursting with all that youth work holds dear.
Llywydd yr Urdd, Siwan Dafydd gave a really inspiring speech covering diverse themes and reassuring many in the audience when she told us “youth has no age”!
We were so grateful for all the overwhelming support we received leading up to and on the day, both on and offline, that I compiled the messages into a huge Storify:
ProMo Cymru kindly documented the event and made a short video for us, available by following this link (sadly it was too large to upload to our website.

Here’s to another 70 years!
